All Through The Night

I love weekends that are stuffed and filled. I’ve approached Monday more willingly than I would have if I had a chilled-out, quiet weekend.  Saturday night, in particular was magnifique for me. I had so much strobelight-lit-fun, I am still reeling in it.

The ICA had been turned into a playground as Nightclub. As soon as I heard that Gang Gang Dance was playing and Cocadisco DJs were going to be throwing italo disco soundwaves, there was no question I’d go along.

Walking down to the Mall from Trafalgar Square, I felt the thrill of hearing the muffled music and seeing colourful lights through the windows. It shouted Dance Party. Oh how I love dance parties.

After a slight kerfuffle with getting in (confusing queues/ I bought our tickets online already-/I can’t miss Gang Gang Dance play!) we got in. I ran to see Gang Gang Dance and my ears pricked up to the high vocals, tribal beats and noise. This is what Touch Hair For Luck would sound like if we had drums and if we were still in the same country together. I shared this sentiment with Bingley using my phone as there was no chance we’d ever hear each other.

Oh what a night! I loved running around the gallery and crawling into rooms. I loved seeing the prancing legs through the cubby holes. I loved watching Heartbreak. It made me think that I have to form a Fun Fun tribute band. Most of all, I loved dancing. And that’s what I did. All through the night.

Remix Romance

Here’s a sweet little Scandinavian treat. Fans of Swedish pop chanteuse, Sally Shapiro will be glad to hear that Remix Romance was released a few weeks ago. Disco Romance was released last year and although not particularly known, this 80s-influenced album made it to the best top albums lists including ones on Boomkat and Pitchfork. Very nice, especially in today’s world where packaging is almost everything. As you can see, the album cover is not sleek at all. So much so that Vice announced that it is the worst album cover they’ve ever seen. As dire as the album cover seems, the album is perfect for synth-pop enthusiasts.

I have had this album on my ipod for over a year and refuse to give it up. Just when I was thinking that really, I should move on, my love affair with this is given a breath of fresh air! Remix Romance has been handpicked by Johan Agebjörn, and has some gems from the likes of Junior Boys, Lindstrøm and Juan Maclean. I bought Jackie Junior from Phonica and it’s lush but the one that I have been listening to over and over again is The Cansecos remix of Hold Me So Tight. It is pure joy.

So there you go. If you thought you had listened to Disco Romance one too many times, go out and get Remix Romance.

Stopping at Happy Station

It is so nice to discover something new. It is nice, even when it’s not new. But it is to you, because you’ve only just discovered it (21 years later in this case).

One Friday, at Cocadisco in The Dolphin I found myself in Happy Station. Although to be honest, the DJ actually played Colour My Love. It has been approximately 3 weeks since I discovered Fun Fun and I have since bought a cd to tie me over until I get my hands on some vinyl.

Listening and dancing to the album has brought me endless waves of Fun Fun. I urge you to seek some Fun Fun. It’s happy music.
